Jay S. Skyler, M.D., is a Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics and Psychology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Associate Director for Academic Programs at the Diabetes Research Institute.
He also is Program Director of the University of Miami General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). Dr. Skyler's career in diabetes spans over three and a half decades, where his research interests have concentrated in clinical aspects of diabetes, particularly improving the care of Type 1 diabetes through meticulous glycemic control, psychosocial and behavioral support, and immune intervention.
He was Study Chairman for the nationwide multi-center Diabetes Prevention Trial for Type 1 diabetes (DPT-1) and now serves as Study Chairman of its successor, the NIH-sponsored Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, a nationwide network conducting clinical trials to interdict Type 1 diabetes.
He has served the American Diabetes Association in many capacities, as well as several other diabetes organizations. A frequent national and international lecturer, Dr. Skyler has been an author, editor and co-editor of numerous books, monographs, chapters and articles.
