Luca Inverardi, M.D.

Luca Inverardi, M.D., is Director of Immunobiology of Islet Transplantation and Associate Director of the Cell Transplant Center at the Diabetes Research Institute, and a Research Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. 

Much of Dr. Inverardi’s research interests lie in developing ways to make biological replacement of insulin-producing tissue reproducibly successful in a large cohort of patients.  

This area of investigation focuses on a broad range of basic research experiments in the areas of transplant immunology, tolerance induction, and cytoprotection, as well as immunogenetic studies to prevent diabetes. 

His division is comprised of multi-disciplinary scientists working in the areas of molecular biology, immunology, gene therapy, pathology and immunogenetics.  

Dr. Inverardi has also been an active participant in several academic partnerships and has ongoing teaching responsibilities at the University of Miami.
