While many of the DRI’s efforts are focused on reversing diabetes through islet transplantation, studies are also being conducted to characterize and better understand its genetic and immunological causes, which are relevant to the long-term success of islet transplantation and other strategies to cure diabetes. Moreover, DRI investigators also aim at preventing the onset of the disease in those at risk.
