Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) or glucose sensors represent the latest advancement in glucose monitoring technology for people living with diabetes.
Our CGM Program has been designed to increase participant skill levels in the concepts, implementation and basic interpretation of continuous glucose monitoring systems.
Presented in three parts, our CGM program commences with orientation for those people wanting to know more about CGM and the different devices available. For those who have purchased a CGM device, they may continue the series by attending our two-part implementation program.
All three components are offered each month and taught by our education team in a fun, hands-on environment. The three parts are:
Sensor Orientation
A two-hour class for people considering CGM implementation.
This class covers:
- Explanation of CGM
- Benefits & limitations of CGM
- The role of finger stick blood glucose checks
- Available CGM devices
- Features of CGM devices
- Process for CGM purchase & supplies
Sensor 1 – CGM Implementation & Download
The first of two classes for patients who have purchased a CGM and are ready to commence (four hours).
This class covers:
- Explanation of CGM
- Required supplies for each CGM device
- Sensor site choice & site rotation
- Sensor insertion
- Programming individual alert settings (button-pushing)
- Transmitter requirements
- Correct calibration principles
- Graphical features
- Introduction to downloading
- Sensor change requirements
Sensor 2 – CGM Troubleshooting & Glucose Interpretation Principles
This two-hour class completes the second portion of the CGM implementation phase.
This class covers:
- Review of practical situations encountered by participants
- Sensor vs finger stick glucose readings
- Review of sensor set-up screens
- Alarm settings / real life experiences
- Sensor experiences
- Download data & reports
