Dr. William Rand is the founder and director of the Rand Eye Institute in Pompano Beach, Florida. Recognized internationally for excellence in ophthalmology, the Rand Eye Institute is one of the largest comprehensive eye centers in the country.
Dr. Rand has earned a reputation as one of the most experienced cataract, refractive and ophthalmic micro-surgeons in the world. He has also been a strong advocate for healthcare reform and, as an advisor to senators and congressmen, has greatly influenced the political arena in both Florida and the United States.
Together with his wife, Deborah, the Rands have been an integral part of the Diabetes Research Institute family since 1985, shortly after their son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of one. Both have dedicated much time and effort to the Foundation as well as generously contributing financially to the cause.
Dr. Rand has served on the board of directors of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation since 1990. In 2003, he became the first chairman of the DRIF Florida Regional Board.
