A GIFT OF LOVE...A GIFT OF HOPE
February 11, 2008
More than 220 women gathered to support diabetes research at Polo Club of Boca Raton on Monday, February 11, for the Ninth Annual A Gift of Love…a Gift of Hope Luncheon. Once again led by Mariana Sherman and Renee Aronin, the ladies of the Palm Beach County Auxiliary organized the event, which raised more than $30,000, their largest amount yet, for the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI.)
Guests enjoyed a wonderful lunch at tables embellished by red hearts. A fun afternoon ensued, as some women played card games such as canasta, mah-jongg and duplicate bridge while others delighted in another favorite pastime -- shopping. A unique boutique brimming with fabulous jewelry, clothing, handbags, belts and more from ten vendors fulfilled the ladies’ desire to acquire. And meanwhile, several spectacular prizes were raffled off to the especially lucky. As the afternoon came to a close, guests headed home with faces aglow and shopping bags in tow.
Born in 1998 with the mission to create awareness about diabetes and to help find a cure for it, the Palm Beach County Auxiliary has raised more than $180,000 to purchase equipment for the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI). In addition to the annual luncheon, the ladies of the social group have organized fashion shows, theater outings, travel packages, and a Las Vegas night. New members are always welcome. If you live in Palm Beach County and are interested in joining, please contact Mariana Sherman at (561) 445-2093.
