In recognition of a generous contribution to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, the lobby at the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) now bears the name, Carole and Barry Kaye.  A warm and loving couple who reside in Boca Raton, the Kayes became involved with the organization several years ago and recently made a $1 million gift in support of the DRI’s cure-focused research.

On December 11, several of the DRI Foundation’s board and donors, plus many DRI faculty members gathered in the lobby for the dedication ceremony, which featured passed hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and the unveiling of the lobby’s new name.

DRI Foundation President and CEO Robert A. Pearlman addressed the audience, briefly explaining the Kayes involvement.  They are members of the Foundation’s Leadership Council and Heritage Society, and have served as Honorary Chairmen of the DRI’s signature fundraising event, the Love and Hope Ball.

In addition to being a strong supporter, Barry has also been a true asset by helping the DRI Foundation raise additional funds.  “There’s a means of leveraging money that Barry has figured out that can really make a difference in philanthropy,” Pearlman said of the life insurance guru who heads Barry Kaye Associates, headquartered in Los Angeles and now with offices in Boca Raton.

DRI Scientific Director Dr. Camillo Ricordi added, “I cannot tell you both how grateful I am to have you as our supporters, and as friends.  Thank you so much.  It is a privilege.”

Carole, who served as the designer and curator of The Carole and Barry Kaye Museum of Miniatures, the world’s largest collection of miniatures, thanked everyone in the room for their hard work and support.  “I appreciate all that you are doing to cure this disease,” she said.

“Diabetes is such an abomination throughout the world,” said Barry, and concluded, “I live to give and believe that anybody who makes money has a responsibility to give back.”
