Jonas Brothers Concert

March 7, 2008

Thanks to Gary Hall and the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation,
kids with diabetes enjoy the Jonas Brothers concert!

Diabetes Research Institute Foundation board member Gary Hall, Jr. was so disappointed when he realized he wouldn't be able to attend the Jonas Brothers concert in South Florida on March 7 at BankAtlantic Center.  The only thing that made him feel better was to donate his entire suite to a lucky group of kids with diabetes!

Who doesn't love the Jonas Brothers?!?!  But these nine kids (each with a parent in tow) were extra excited because of the connection they have with lead singer, Nick Jonas, who announced that he has type 1 diabetes at the DRI Foundation's Carnival for a Cure event in 2007.

Special thanks goes out to Gary Hall, the Olympic swimmer with a gold medal heart, and Kirstie Bolitho, executive director of the Gary Hall Jr. Foundation for Diabetes, who helped make some dreams come true that day.

As Nick Jonas introduced to the audience the song, "A little bit longer," which is about having diabetes, these nine kids felt like he was speaking directly to them...

"As some of you may or may not know, this song was written about something really close to my heart. You know sometimes life brings out its complications and some hardships, but you know, it's how we deal with them that counts.

And I know that each and every single one of you in this audience tonight have been through a hard time in your life before, right? I know that each and every one of you have felt, at one point, like you couldn't go on.

But then you found hope. There's always some way to find hope. Remember that. There was a time in my life when I got diagnosed with diabetes, and I thought that I'm not gonna be able to live my dream, getting to do what I wanna do. That was three years ago. And I can say, today, that I played for 12,000 people in Florida. That happened 'cause I found hope.

How many of you people in this audience tonight need to find hope? How many of you need to find a friend? And how many of you need to feel some peace? Well like I said, that's what this song is about. And tonight, this song -- this song is for you. This song is for every broken heart tonight, and for every broken dream, for every high and for every low. Don't ever forget it.

Now, what I want you to do now is, if you know the words to this song, I want you to sing with all...with all your heart and with all your soul. 'Cause something happens when 12,000 come together and sing a song. Alright? Now this song is for this generation, and this generation is gonna sing it out."

A Little Bit Longer
(Song lyrics - Jonas Brothers)

Got the news today
But they said I had to stay
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine
When I thought it'd all been done
When I thought it'd all been said
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine

But you don't know what you got
'Till it's gone
And you don't know what it's like
To feel so low
Everytime you smile or laugh you glow
You don't even know
No no
You don't even know

All this time goes by
Still no reason why
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine
Waitin' on a cure
But none of them are sure
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine

But you don't know what you got
'Till it's gone
And you don't know what it's like
To feel so low
And everytime you smile or laugh you glow
You don't even know
No no
You don't even know
No no

Two, three, four!

Yeah!
And you don't know what you got
'Till it's gone
And you don't know what it's like
To feel so low
And everytime you smile or laugh you glow
You don't even know
No
Yeah
Woah!

[Oooohhh]

So I wait 'till kingdom come
All the highs and lows are gone
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine
I'll beFine

[Additonal lyrics]

So I'm finally here today
You've touched me here today
And I wish that I could stay
A little bit longer
And I will be fine
