PLEASURES OF THE PALATE

At the 10th anniversary of Pleasures of the Palate, an intimate benefit dinner for the Diabetes Research Institute, hosts Sue and Doug Gallagher welcomed approximately 120 fellow bon vivants to the event’s new venue, Emeril’s Miami Beach.  Guests were greeted with glasses of bubbling champagne and passed hors d’oeuvres before sitting down to a four-course dinner paired with the appropriate wines to enhance flavors.  Renowned harpist Roberto Perera entertained guests throughout the evening, which was presented by Wine Spectator on January 14.

The wines always take center stage at this event, which boasts incredible live and silent auctions featuring exclusive bottles of wine from the cellars of South Florida’s elite collectors. Sharing the spotlight, however, were the perfectly prepared courses served by the impeccable staff at Emeril’s.  The feast started with a pan seared lump crab cake paired with a fragrant Gewürtztraminer, followed by the restaurant’s signature andouille crusted redfish and a tender filet of beef, served with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and a fruity Cabernet Sauvignon respectively.  A rich fudge brownie or New Orleans-style bread pudding completed the meal with a glass of Quady Elysium.            

During the program, Mr. Gallagher thanked the evening’s top sponsors: Wine Spectator, Paul J. DiMare Foundation/Paul and Swanee DiMare, The Hector Family Foundation, The Headlands Foundation, Steven and Tammy Klein, Regions Financial Corporation, and Republic National Distributing Company, which donated all of the evening’s dinner wines.            

“Most importantly, I’d like to thank each and every one of you here tonight for your support of the Diabetes Research Institute.  We will do whatever we possibly can in the effort to eradicated this disease,” Mr. Gallagher concluded.
