On September 23, 2008, the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation’s (DRIF) Long Island Region hosted The Cycle of Discovery Donor Appreciation Dinner at Oheka Castle in Huntington. The Cycle of Discovery is an elegant series of eight sculptures portraying the scientific journey through the evolution of an idea. Each piece in the sequence is a representation of the accomplishments made by Diabetes Research Institute scientists—from the evolution of an idea to the complex investigation process to the translation from the laboratory to the patient.

The evening paid tribute to the DRI’s generous donors and acknowledged their role in enabling its scientists to accelerate progress towards a cure for diabetes. Guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner followed by an update from Norma Sue Kenyon, Ph.D., Co-Director of the Executive Research Council at the DRI. Robert A. Pearlman, DRIF president and CEO, along with Allan L. Pashcow, chairman of DRIF’s Long Island Board, commenced the award presentation portion of the evening. They acknowledged the distinguished circle of donors—those who have made a major contribution of $25,000 or more, and members of the DRI Foundation’s Heritage Society, which acknowledges individuals who have made a planned gift, or have provided for the DRI in their will or trust.
