EMPIRE BALL

The Empire Ball, which was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, raised more than $1,400,000 for the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI.)  Sponsored by the Real Estate Division of the DRI, the event had another record breaking year, and it attracted more than 1,200 guests.  

The dinner/dance honored Edward Piccinich, Executive Vice President of SL Green Realty Corp.  He received the prestigious Empire Ball Award from last year’s honoree, David Arena of Grubb & Ellis. 

The Camillo Ricordi Humanitarian Award was presented to John Catsimatidis, Chairman & CEO of  Red Apple Group,Gristedes Supermarkets, by last year's recipient, Arthur Skelskie of Moody’s Corporation.

Peter L. DiCapua, Empire Ball co-chair, introduced and thanked the board of governors, founders, all committees and chairpersons. Special introductions were made of all the past honorees who were present.   

Dr. Camillo Ricordi, DRI Scientific Director, said a few words on the progress that the DRI is making to cure diabetes.  Robert A. Pearlman, President/CEO of the DRI Foundation, gave a short speech and introduced the memorable DRI film, which was emceed by Patti LaBelle.  

The evening was topped off, not only by the Ric Mango orchestra, but also by the Mid Life Crisis band, led by Joe Dee.
