D.R.E.A.M.S. IN THE CITY
May 14, 2008

Immersed in an Art Deco theme – from the architecture of its venue, to its invitation, to the classic cocktails to be served – the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation’s third annual D.R.E.a.M.S. in the City fundraiser boasts a celebrity-packed honorary committee and will attract New York City’s top trendsetters. This fabulous affair will be held at Cipriani 23rd Street on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will feature excellent and highly-rated wines from Wine Spectator, delectable food, and a luxury silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI.) Tickets to D.R.E.a.M.S. in the City are $400 per person or $300 per junior guest (age 35 and under).
Among the luminaries associated with this year’s event are Michael Strahan, star defensive end of the Super Bowl champion-New York Giants; Ed Randall, radio host of “Talking Baseball”; top toque Emeril Lagasse and his culinary colleagues Sam Talbot of “Top Chef”; Lee Brian Schrager, founder of the South Beach Wine and Food Festival; Chef Michelle Bernstein of the acclaimed Michy’s in Miami Beach; Michel Nischan, renowned chef and award-winning cookbook author; and Stephen P. Hanson, founder and president of B.R. Guest Restaurants.
According to Event Co-chairs Samantha Shanken Baker, Bonnie Inserra, and Risa Pulver, last year’s soirée raised more than $700,000 for the DRI – nearly three times the amount raised at the 2006 premier event. This year’s spectacular silent auction, featuring among other allures, fantastic travel packages and a chance to play golf in a foursome with Michael Strahan, promises to be a highlight of the evening. Another highlight will be the presence of New York Giants placekicker Lawrence Tynes and his wife, Amanda.
The evening’s honoree and recipient of the Dare to Dream award is Thomas P. Silver, president of family-owned real estate company Orda Management Corporation in New York City. Mr. Silver has been living with type 1 diabetes for more than 30 years, and he is a vigorous supporter of the DRI. He is a Northeast Regional Board member of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, and his wife, Natasha Silver, is Honorary Chair of D.R.E.a.M.S. in the City.
In addition to Wine Spectator, lead sponsors include, at the 50-Carat level, The Inserra Family, Ellen and Morton Silver, and Natasha and Thomas P. Silver. Platinum sponsors are Deana and Stephen P. Hanson, Jane Parker and Francis Cosentino, Lisa and John Reisman, and Jill Viner and Cliff Viner. Diamond-level sponsors are Kim and Jordan Dickstein, Meryl Lieberman, Risa and Jeff Pulver, Judi and Paul Reisman, and Stuart A. Roffman. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available.
