Integrated Diabetes Research: Key to Success

Diseases are rarely the result of a single cause. It makes little sense to approach them from a single angle.

At the DRI, our diabetes research teams focus on four key areas where progress must be made – and shared – if we’re to successfully cure diabetes. Our strategic model for diabetes research embraces a multidisciplinary approach and includes:

  • Cellular & Molecular Biology of the Endocrine Pancreas
  • Sources of Insulin Producing Cells & Regeneration
  • Immunomodulation & Tolerance
  • Nanotechnologies, Encapsulation, Biomaterials, Devices & Local Drug Delivery

One small step forward by research teams in any of these areas of research can have a huge impact on work being done by others within the interconnected team. Through this synergy, we’re able to tackle diabetes from many angles and coordinate efforts to find future clinical success in restoring insulin production and reversing diabetes.

Multidisciplinary teams of scientists at the DRI work in an integrated, collaborative environment. The Institute has four primary research areas: 1) Cellular and Molecular Biology of the Endocrine Pancreas 2) Immunomodulation and Tolerance 3) Sources of Insulin Producing Cells and Regeneration 4) Nanotechnologies, Encapsulation, Biomaterials, Devices and Local Drug Delivery

These areas are supported by two additional core areas: Advanced Technology Platforms and Administration, Finance, Bio-Statistics and Bio-informatics
