Collaboration is Key to a Cure
At the Diabetes Research Institute, we’ve adopted an open-door philosophy.
We share ideas, expertise, equipment and best practices with researchers around the world because we believe collaboration will lead us faster to a diabetes cure.
We foster that collaboration by:
• Creating a global, "virtual" laboratory"
• Sharing protocols and standard operating procedures
• Distributing equipment to researchers worldwide which we developed
• Participating in international research projects
• Hosting international conferences and workshops
• Training scientists from centers around the world
Among the other collaborations we’re involved in are:
• The Clinical Islet Transplantation Consortium , a network of clinical centers and a data coordinating center established in 2004 to conduct studies of islet transplantation in patients with type 1 diabetes.
• One of our DRI researchers is a member of the Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium (T1DGC), the official liaison with the International Histocompatibility Working Group, and a member of the Technology Development Sub-Committee of the T1DGC.
By expanding our collaborative interactions and sharing diabetes resources, we can achieve our common goal – to develop a diabetes cure – in less time, and make the best use of collective resources.
