Special projects, programs and diabetes fundraising events held in support of the DRI Foundation are going on all the time, all over the country.

DRIF events are a great way to meet people, have fun and help support our mission to find a cure for all children and adults affected by diabetes.

Don Strock Diabetes Golf Classic  

Former Miami Dolphins quarterbacks Dan Marino and Don Strock led 150 golfers onto the courses at Miccosukee Golf and Country Club for this 27th annual event, presented by Miami Seaquarium.

D.R.E.a.M.S. in the City  

The fifth annual D.R.E.a.M.S. in the City took place on Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the stylish Beaux Arts environs of Capitale. Chaired by Samantha Shanken Baker and Bonnie Inserra, the event was attended by 350 guests and raised nearly $500,000 for the Diabetes Research Institute.

The Crystal Ball  

The strength of the ties that bind Long Island with the Diabetes Research Institute in Miami was on full display at the 12th Annual Crystal Ball.  Once again, the premiere event of the season, this fabulous black-tie affair was held at the beautiful Garden City Hotel, Garden City, NY. 

Randi Fibus-Caster Pro Am Diabetes Golf Classic   

Thanks to a hard-working committee and generous sponsors, this premiere event was a success in both fun and fundraising.  Pro golfers joined amateurs on the course at The Polo Club of Boca Raton, and a pleasant evening of cocktails and dinner followed.

Love and Hope Thank You Luncheon   

More than 50 members of the Love and Hope Committee celebrated the success of their 36th fundraising season for the DRI with a lovely luncheon at Miami's Westview Country Club on April 7, 2010.

Kids Party for a Cure  

Parents and kids partied for a cure like never before and helped raise more than $125,000 for the DRI on Sunday, March 7, 2010.

Carnival for a Cure  

Hundreds of families spent the springlike afternoon of Sunday, March 7, enjoying food, fun, games, music, prizes and more at this fifth annual fundraiser in New York City.

Vintages  

The premiere Vintages Gala, held at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, FL, took nearly 250 guests on a trip back in time on February 20.

Love and Hope Ball  

At this 36th annual event, themed “Honoring America,” U.S. Senior Airman Tre F. Porfirio was recognized alongside the leaders of his medical team who collaborated to save him from a life of brittle diabetes after he was injured in Afghanistan. Also apropos of its patriotic theme, International Chairmen Linda and Barry Gibb proudly announced their new American citizenship. Combined with November’s Preview Party, this extraordinary black-tie gala raised $1 million.

The Empire Ball  

New York's Real Estate Division gathered at the Grand Hyatt Hotel for this elegant affair, which was once again chaired by Peter L. DiCapua, who received the Distinguished Service Award. Gaston Silva of Vornado Realty Trust was honored this year, and Michele Medaglia of ACC Construction received the Camillo Ricordi Humanitarian Award.

DRI Wellington Golf Classic with Michelle McGann  

Guests of the DRI Wellington Golf Classic were privy to a brief clinic with Pro Michelle McGann, and some even won the opportunity to golf with her.  The tournament was an effort produced by the Vintages committee, whose title event will occur February 20.

Northeast Region Board Reception 

Rick Lepkowski was welcomed to the Northeast region as Regional Director at an intimate cocktail reception held at the chic New York City restaurant Rouge Tomate.

Champions for Charity 

An air of holiday spirit was present as London Jewelers hosted an exciting and glamorous cocktail reception for the DRI Foundation during the Americana Manhasset Champions for Charity 2009 Shopping Benefit.

 

Love and Hope Preview Party  

With the love of family and old friends and the hope of a cure for diabetes, the fabulous Love and Hope Committee commenced their 36th fundraising season for the DRI at the Love and Hope Preview Party on November 19.  The magnificent evening affair was underwritten by Isabel May for the seventh consecutive year.

Diabetes 2.0 - Florida 

Watch videos and read blog posts from Diabetes 2.0 >> Connecting the Community from Care to Cure! This interactive conference offered updates in research, management, care, support and more for approximately 300 attendees, who traveled to South Florida from as far away as Italy.

 

Fall Into Fashion 

Fall fashion trends ruled the day and drew a large crowd for the eleventh annual Fall Into Fashion event, which honored Roberta and Larry Helfant and held at Carlyle on the Green at Bethpage State Park.

 

 

All in for a Cure 

New York City's Grand Havana Room was the locale for the second annual All in for a Cure, where nearly 200 attendees played Texas Hold 'em poker and enjoyed passed hors d'oeuvres, excellent wines and spirits, and find cigars in a stylish, members-only club that is famous for its panoramic skyline views.

On the Right Track 

Proving that they are physically and philanthropically 'On the Right Track,' more than five dozen Palm Beach County kids, teens and adults participated in a walkathon at Legacy Place in Palm Beach Gardens.

 

Pleasures of the Palate

Emeril's Miami Beach played host to the 11th annual Pleasures of the Palate, an intimate dinner that  is perenially hosted by by Sue and Doug Gallagher. Almost 130 fellow bon vivants attended the gourmet affair, which raised more than $110,000.

 

Stand Up for a Cure  

Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts Band rocked and 375 partygoers rolled with laughter at Stand Up for a Cure on October 25.  The hilarious Jimmy Kimmel served as emcee of this seventh annual affair, once again held at Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles.

Phil Peterson's Key West Poker Run

More than 10,000 riders geared up to make the annual trek from Miami to Key West for South Florida's biggest motorcycle party of the year.  

Rod Gilbert Golf Classic

The Rod Gilbert Golf Classic was held at the Pine Hollow Country Club, East Norwich, and was a day of birdies and bogies mixed with friendly competition.

Louis Vuitton Trunk Show

DRI Foundation National Board member Risa Pulver and her husband, Jeff, hosted a cocktail party at their home, highlighted by a trunk show for the Louis Vuitton Fall 2009/2010 Collection.

Sail for the Cure Regatta

A group of young sailors from Long Island's Narrasketuck Yacht Club launched a first-time event for the DRI.

Woodbury Magazine Parenting Lecture & Luncheon

Woodbury Magazine's 6th Annual Parenting Lecture and Luncheon at The Carltun featured Dr. Michele Borba and an enlightening discussion on "How to Raise Socially Responsible Kids in a Racy, Raunchy World."

Shell Key West Fishing Challenge

The Shell Key West Challenge celebrated a milestone on May 28 - 31 when cumulative proceeds surpassed $2 million at the 21st annual event. The Blaylock Family, who founded the event, is passionately committed to finding a cure for a very special member of the family - 9-year-old Matthew - and millions of other children and adults with diabetes.

Sportsmen for Charity

The DRI was the beneficiary of the Seventh Annual Sportsmen for Charity event held at the Pawling Mountain Club in Pawling, NY. The exciting clay shooting event was attended by more than 70 shot gun and sporting clay enthusiasts.

Kara Ross Boutique Luncheon

More than 70 women enjoyed an intimate luncheon hosted by the Young Society of Love and Hope. The Luncheon featured a Spring/Summer 2009 show of exotic handbags and fine designer jewelry by Kara Ross.

DRI Golf and Tennis Classic

Commemorating its 5th anniversary at La Gorce Country Club, the DRI Golf and Tennis Classic attracted more than 200 guests to the prestigious Miami Beach venue. For the Holtz family, who serve as chair, the event is a labor of love.

Encore! A Cure!

Nearly 350 friends of the DRI honored the talented cast of Bombshells, The Musical with a standing ovation for their performance at The Miracle Theater in Coral Gables.

Kids Party for a Cure

More than 1,000 children and adults enjoyed an Around the World adventure without even leaving Miami at Kids Party for a Cure, presented by The Lexi Bayview Residences and Amy and Scott Greenwald.

DRI Harold Kart Golf Classic

Professional golfer Michelle McGann was joined by nearly 260 amateurs for the DRI Harold Kart Golf Classic held at Boca West Country Club, raising more than $260,000.

Diabetes 2.0 Conference

Attendees at the DRI Foundation's Diabetes 2.0 Conference in New York City learned about the latest advances toward a cure, tools and treatments for diabetes management, dealing with emotional issues and more. View the videos from the event, a Q&A and more.

 

Grand Re-Opening of Michael Kors Boutique

Michael Kors is the leading American fashion designer for luxury accessories and sportswear. The newly-expanded Michael Kors boutique at Americana Manhasset partnered with the Diabetes Research Institute to celebrate the grand re-opening.

The Cycle of Discovery Donor Dinner

The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation's Long Island Region hosted The Cycle of Discovery Donor Appreciation Dinner at Oheka Castle in Huntington. The evening paid tribute to the DRI's most generous donors.

Lester's Back-to-School Event

Parents, children and savvy shoppers enjoyed an evening of fashion and fun at Lester's, a family-owned and operated children's clothing store on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The event, which also celebrated Lester's 60th birthday, was a benefit for the DRI.

Firefighters Hockey Game

South Florida firefighters took a break from the flames to help extinguish diabetes. The East Coast Bomberos took on the West Coast Firefighters in an afternoon amateur hockey game at the Bank Atlantic Center.

D'Vine Divas

Serving as a kick-off for the 2008 Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival and celebrating the talents of some extraordinary women, this divine dinner held at the Biltmore was hosted by Samantha Shanken of Wine Spectator and master sommelier Laura DePasquale.

An Evening Under the Stars

Legendary artist and performer Diana Ross gave a thrilling performance at An Evening Under the Stars, held in The Hamptons. Generously underwritten by Jill Viner and Cliff Viner, it was THE event of the summer.
