Cyndi Smart was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 16.
After suffering the frightening impact of severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) -- and relying on her young daughters to care for her -- she came to the DRI for an islet cell transplant.
Today, her blood sugar is under control. And, her life has changed dramatically.
"It's a whole new life for me," she says. "I'm healthy."
