Stand Up for a Cure

The Eighth Annual Stand Up for a Cure event, presented by Marion and Bob Wilson & The Fish Market Restaurants, was held on November 7, 2010 at Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Approximately 180 guests enjoyed a night of fun and laughter. Cochairs Paula and Tom Wilson and a fabulous Stand Up Committee planned the evening’s festivities from emcee "Motorman" Leon Kaplan of TalkRadio 790 KABC and entertainment by comedian Dante from NBC's Last Comic Standing to a silent and live auction that added a little audience participation to benefit the amazing research!
Cycle of Discovery awards were presented to recognize cumulative gifts from generous donors. Marion and Robert Wilson and The Mary Farrell and Stuart Bloomberg Family received Hypothesis Awards, and Carolyn and John Couts and Steve Martini representing Cure Diabetes Now received the Query award.
The DRI’s Dr. Alice Tomei spoke enthusiastically about her work in encapsulating islet cells and using a protein that occurs in tumors to turn off the autoimmune response in diabetes. In response, Stu Bloomberg led the appeal asking the audience to help fund the cure-focused research of the DRI.
