HERE COME THE BRIDES – AND GROOMS – AT THE WEDDING VEIL WALK BENEFITING
THE DIABETES RESEARCH INSTITUTE
On Sunday, May 22, the “brides” and “grooms” were walking…but it wasn’t down the aisle! Rather, they walked toward a cure for diabetes at the Wedding Veil Walk for a Cure, which benefited the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI). Held at the enchanting Old Westbury Gardens, the event was organized and sponsored by Iman Bridal Couture, located in Old Brookville. More than 100 walkers strolled through the magnificent landscape and raised $4,600 for the DRI’s cure-focused research.
“I have been involved with a variety of different charities over the years, each a great cause, but the DRI is different to me because it’s not only a charity, it offers hope,” said Iman Baccash, owner of Iman Bridal Couture. “My mother, like millions of people, suffers from diabetes. I have seen firsthand what it is like to live with this illness. The DRI offers hope that one day, with enough support and research, together we can conquer this disease.”
In keeping with the theme, women wore tulle wedding veils, and the men were fashionable in bowties. Co-chairs Iris Feldman and Wendy Waller contributed greatly to the success of the event, which also included face-painting and family entertainment.
“Each step we take will get us closer to finding a cure,” said Baccash.
