Kids Party for A Cure
Family fun was had by all at the 9th Annual Kids Party for a Cure. The event brought 425 guests together from all over Long Island at Dave and Buster’s at the Mall at The Source in Westbury on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm to benefit the DRI. The Kids Party raised $90,000 for research to find a cure for diabetes.
The Kids Party Co-chairs and committee members were pleased to welcome very special guest Jake T. Austin. Jake donated $2,500 to the DRI and was on hand to take photos with the children and autograph photos, Teddy Bears and cell phones for his fans! Jake played the role of ‘Max Russo,’ the youngest wizard on The Disney Channel’s Emmy Award winning series, “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Whether appearing on TV/film or lending his voice to animated characters, Jake T. Austin is a multitalented actor who has showcased his talent across the board in the entertainment industry. Jake is also one of the star's in "New Year's Eve"!
Kids and parents alike were busy from the second they arrived – playing video and arcade games and jumping on inflatables, bowling, playing pool and more. Amidst the revelry, attendees enjoyed a wide selection of food and beverages to please all palates. Participants purchased sweepstakes tickets, bid on exciting items offered in the silent auction and all kids received goody bags on their way out the door.
Leading the event were Kid’s Party Co-chairs René Checchia and Frankie Lam. "Each and every year the Kid’s Party exceeds our every expectation, and each year we see more and new friendly faces. We couldn't be happier with our specaial guest Jake T. Austin. He is a wonderful and giving young man. His compassion for children with type 1 diabetes and to finding a cure is to be commended," said Rene`.
Our goal has always been to get people involved and engage them in the fight to find a cure. The Kid’s Party does that by combining fun and a very important message of hope and support for diabetes research,” said Frankie.
