Rod Gilbert DRI Golf Classic

A day on the golf course is certainly something to look forward to...and so much more rewarding when you can play for an important cause. On Monday, August 6, 2012, the Rod Gilbert Diabetes Research Institute Golf Classic was held at the beautiful Pine Hollow Country Club, East Norwich to raise the much needed funds to find a cure for children and adults living with diabetes. The Tournament Directors for the event were Eric Reeps and Bob Zuckerman.
The golf classic, held anually, is in memory of Anthony John Vitale and Helaine Shari White. This year, the committee was pleased to honor Sam Baretta, Executive Vice President, Continental Home Loans, Inc. New York Ranger legend Rod Gilbert was at the event to support the DRI in its efforts to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
"I've met so many wonderful people who are dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes. It's my honor to be part of such a tremendous event that supports the DRI's mission of finding a cure," said honoree Sam Baretta. Sam's family, friends and associates were also on hand to congratulate him and support the DRI.
This year's outing was a huge success. Thanks to all the hard work of the committee and support of generous donors the event was sold out and more than 150 guests attended the awards dinner. After a day of birdies and boagies, golfers enjoyed a delicous dinner, a fabulous array of desserts, and an incredible live auction.
