Bench-to-Bedside Approach To Finding Diabetes Cure

Translational Research: Moving from Research to Reality

The world of medical research is full of exciting discoveries. But few centers have the ability to conduct research and move the most promising findings from the laboratory to the patient with diabetes.  At the Diabetes Research Institute, we’re proud to have changed that research paradigm.

We're uniquely structured to conduct bench to bedside – or, translational -- research here because we house all three phases of research under one roof:

  • Basic (Experiments carried out at the laboratory "bench”)
  • Pre-clinical (Experiments carried out in animal models)
  • Clinical (Patient-based studies, or “bedside”)

Scientists working within these three levels of translational research here at the DRI share and build on each other’s results, ensuring that progress in finding a diabetes cure is made as safely and quickly as possible.
