Jericho Twin Brothers Search for a Cure At Top Diabetes Research Centers
December 14, 2015 -- More than their common birthdays link 17-year-old twins Jake and Michael Carrion from Jericho, NY. Together, they share a dream – finding a cure for diabetes. Jake and Michael knew the best place to go to answer their probing and inquiring thoughts was the DRI.

 

 

DRI Hosts Annual Investigator Meeting on Islet Cell Research
December 3, 2015 -- The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) will serve as the host institution for the 2015 Annual Investigator meeting of the Human Islet Research Network (HIRN) Consortium of Human Islet Biomimetics (CHIB).

 

 

DRI Pioneers Safer Approach for Creating Insulin-Producing Cells
November 24, 2015 -- Scientists from the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) have successfully converted non-insulin producing cells into insulin-producing cells using a single agent, BMP-7 (bone morphogenetic protein-7), which is already approved by the FDA for clinical use. 

 

 Dr. Camillo Ricordi to Deliver Inaugural CTS Ricordi Lecture at Joint Congress
November 17, 2015 -- Scientists from around the world working within the multi-disciplinary fields of cell and organ transplantation are convening in Melbourne, Australia, this week for the 2015 Joint Congress, a global forum for sharing progress on new cell-based treatments and research to cure diabetes.

Bob Dooley and Donor Advised Funds Support the DRI
October 2015 -- Bob Dooley is no stranger to the Diabetes Research Institute, having been a supporter since 1979. His interest was motivated by his son Robert’s diagnosis 49 years ago, before they moved to Florida. Alberto Pugliese, M.D.$3.3 Million Dollar Grant Funds Collaborative Diabetes Research
January 2015 -- The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust has awarded a $3.3 million grant to the Diabetes Research Institute/UM, the University of Florida, and additional institutions worldwide, as part of a collaborative global effort to help discover the causes of type 1 diabetes and find a cure.
