Jay Sosenko, M.D.

Dr. Jay Sosenko is a professor of medicine, epidemiology, and pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Since his arrival in 1982, he has participated in patient care, administration, and research.

Dr. Sosenko has treated patients with diabetes across a wide age range at the Diabetes Research Institute. However, his patient care has mainly been directed toward working with adolescents as they transition into being young adults.

He has had several administrative duties at the medical school. He was the Chair of the institutional review board at the medical school for a number of years and is currently the Assistant Provost for Research Standards. He has also served as the Director of the 4-year MD/MPH program at the medical school.

He is an epidemiologist by training. As a researcher within TrialNet, a consortium of researchers studying the prevention of type 1 diabetes, his research for the past 15 years has been focused on the prediction and natural history of type 1 diabetes. He has been especially interested in studying metabolic changes as type 1 diabetes approaches. Utilizing findings from his research, he has helped to develop risk scores for type 1 diabetes, and new measures that might someday lead to an earlier diagnosis. He had previously studied the epidemiology of complications of diabetes, especially neuropathy.

Dr. Sosenko looks forward to continuing his studies and gaining new insights into diabetes.
