New York, NY (June 22, 2012) -- NYChessKids (NYCK), a teaching institution that provides classes, tournaments, and summer camp programs to help children develop chess-playing skills, held a special tournament in New York City on Sunday, May 20, 2012, to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI).

NYChessKids first became involved with the DRI Foundation when Carnival for a Cure Co-Chairs Scott and Sabrina Chosed, asked Saudin Robovic, founder and developer of NYCK, to support the Carnival this past March.  (Maxwell Chosed, son of Scott and Sabrina, has type 1 diabetes and is one of NYCK’s star pupils.)  Mr. Robovic responded generously; with both a sponsorship and an auction prize of three week’s at summer camp, as well as a promise to hold the May tournament.

Before the tournament began, Mr. Robovic and Gary Ryan, Vice President of NYChessKids, presented a check in the amount of $1,500 for the Diabetes Research Institute to Maxwell.  Mr. Chosed spoke about the DRI Foundation and its singular mission of finding a cure for diabetes.  Maxwell talked about the daily challenges he faces and how he focuses on overcoming them; much in the same way as he strategizes when playing chess.

The DRI Foundation is grateful to the Chosed Family for bringing DRIF and NYCK together.  The Foundation also thanks Saudin Robovic, Gary Ryan, and everyone at NYChessKids, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial association.
