Wendy Satin Rapaport, L.C.S.W., Psy.D., licensed clinical psychologist, is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Diabetes Research Institute, University of Miami, and has specialized in individual, marital, family and group therapy for patients with diabetes for more than 30 years. A professional writer, Dr. Rapaport has published more than 30 articles and book chapters on this subject and frequently lectures around the country.
In 1999, she was awarded the National Health Information Award for her book, When Diabetes Hits Home: The Whole Family's Guide to Emotional Health. In her book, she addresses the challenges facing people with diabetes, both those who are newly diagnosed and those who have lived with diabetes for many years, as well as strategies for the management of diabetes through actions and attitudes for everyone involved.
Dr. Rapaport believes deeply in the use of humor. She completed her doctoral dissertation on humor as a coping mechanism in diabetes. She also conducted workshops on Adult Play therapy, using humor to cope with chronic illness. As Assistant Professor at the University of Maine graduate school of social work, she teaches group therapy in the health setting.
Dr. Rapaport has also been instrumental in the launch of the DRI Foundation’s PEP Squad program, helping to train parents to empower parents and peers across the U.S. and the world.
She has served as a consultant to many large pharmaceutical companies and is also a current and/or former member of numerous professional associations, including the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.), A.C.S.W. Academy of Certified Social Workers, N.A.S.W.
