Steven Sonberg is the managing partner at Holland & Knight, LLP. He has served as chair of the firm’s Business Law section for the past five years and previously led the Corporate practice group in South Florida. Prior to that, he served as a member of the firm's Directors Committee for eight years.
With more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Sonberg practices in the areas of corporate and securities law, with particular emphasis on securities offerings and mergers & acquisitions of U.S. and international companies. He has represented clients engaged in a variety of business sectors, including manufacturing and product distribution, pharmaceutical, technology, real estate and transportation industries.
An accomplished attorney, Mr. Sonberg has authored numerous published articles and is a frequent invited speaker on the topics of corporate law and securities. He is listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" 2002 – 2006 editions and in "America's Leading Business Lawyers" in the 2004-2006 Chambers USA lawyers guide.
He is a member of the board of several charitable and civic organizations, including the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami, and the Board of Directors of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF), where he served as president from 1984 - 1986 and chairman from 1990 – 1996. He became involved with the organization after his daughter, Caryn, was diagnosed with diabetes at 18 months of age.
Mr. Sonberg earned his B.S. in accounting from New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business; his J.D. from University of Miami School of Law; and his LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law.
